Sanitas Health Cover - Marbella

Is your health covered?

A growing number of Britain’s are discovering to their horror, that if they become seriously ill, they are not entitled to medical care here or back in Britain.
Prior to retirement age (60 for Women or 65 for Men) you can apply for an E106 form, this gives British Citizens who have moved to Spain ‘residual health care’ on the Spanish health service funded by the UK government for up to the first two years living in Spain (the time depends on tax and NI contributions) After retirement age the E121 form can be obtained, giving health entitlement on the same basis as a Spanish person.
What happens if you are diagnosed with a health problem during your cover with the E106, and then your cover runs out? The answer is you will find yourselves billed for all costs. You may well decide to return to the UK, however if you have been outside of the UK for over 3 months, and took the E106, you are no longer eligible for Health Care under the NHS unless you can prove that you are repatriating to the UK, this can take up to 6 months and will need proof such as taking out a Mortgage in the UK.
Answer: Apply for full Health Insurance whilst still fit and healthy, as no Insurer will accept you once you have a health problem, or will exclude the problem already in existence. Alternatively you will need to pay our Social Security in Spain, but this can only be done if employed or registered as Self Employed.
The old E111 now the NHIC card is only available from the UK if you are still paying National Insurance Contributions, and is only to be used abroad for emergencies. If you require on going treatment you will find yourself being billed for the medical services.
